The influence of the built environment on physical activity has attracted more and more global attention in public health, geography, and environmental science. However, there is a lack of relevant research on adolescents in China. This article uses the 2020 sample survey data on the physical health of junior high school students in the main urban area of Dalian, combined with the neighborhood built environment captured from Baidu Map,to build a Multiple Regression Model to examine the differential impacts of the individual and family characteristics, the perceived neighborhood built environment, the objective neighborhood built environment, and the interaction terms on adolescents’ moderate-to-vigorous physical activity between the weekday and the weekend, and compare the relative importance of various factors. The findings are as follows:First, after controlling the influence of individual and family characteristics, the neighborhood built environment still affects adolescents’ MVPA time. The perceived neighborhood built environment only influences weekend MVPA time. The higher the safety, the longer the weekend MVPA time. The objective neighborhood built environment impacts adolescents’ weekday and weekend MVPA time. There is a negative correlation between the density of sports and fitness venues and weekday MVPA time, and the floor area ratio has a positive correlation with weekday MVPA time. The public transport stops density negatively affects weekend MVPA time.Second, incorporating the interaction terms of individual and family characteristics and neighborhood built environment into the regression model, three interaction terms are found to affect adolescents’ MVPA time. They are gender* accessibility to parks or squares(weekday,P=0.055≤0.1),car availability* accessibility to coastal spaces(weekday,P=0.003≤0.05),and the number of tutorial classes* accessibility to coastal spaces(weekend,P=0.039≤0.05).Third,we divide the influencing factors of adolescents’ MVPA time into the weekday and the weekend. The differences in influencing factors between the weekday and the weekend are mainly concentrated in the individual and family characteristics, followed by the perceived and objective neighborhood built environment, and finally the interaction terms.Among the individual and family characteristics, the influencing factors of MVPA time on weekends are far less than those on weekends. In the perceived neighborhood built environment, only safety affects weekend MVPA time. For the objective neighborhood built environment, the influencing factors of weekday and weekend MVPA time are different. The interaction items that affect adolescents’ weekday and weekend MVPA time are related to accessibility.Fourth, the influence of individual and family characteristics is the most significant, and the perceived neighborhood built environment is the least, whether on the weekday or the weekend.Except for individual and family characteristics and the perceived neighborhood built environment, the impact of the interaction term is more significant than the objective neighborhood built environment on the weekday. While on the weekend, the effects of interaction terms and the objective neighborhood built environment are not much different. |
