Irish Writing In The Great Britain Travel Notes Of The Early 19 Century | | Posted on:2024-06-06 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:K Xu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2555307082981059 | Subject:Comparative Literature and World Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | In the early 19th century,due to various political and military reasons,Britain incorporated its neighboring Ireland,which was a strip of water,into its territory.After the merger of Britain and Ireland,as Britain’s attention to Ireland increased,many Britons traveled to Ireland and wrote travel notes.Through these travel notes,we can see that British travelers have different attitudes towards Ireland,and the concepts and attitudes they exhibit in their travel notes are also different from those of Irish native authors.The similarities and differences in emotions and concepts expressed in all of these travel notes urge us to further consider the objectivity of emotions and attitudes in these travel notes,and attempt to explore the many factors underlying their writing.Firstly,this article distinguishes the writings of British tourists from those of Irish tourists in the early 19 th century,and presents the Irish writings of people from different cultural backgrounds in travel notes in a comparative manner.And further identify the emotional tendencies and characteristics of their respective writings in these two types of travel notes.For British travelers,this article will distinguish between the different places they go to Ireland,and analyze the different Irish writings in these travel notes based on the distinction,so as to explore the different emotional attitudes of these British travelers towards Ireland,and then classify them.During this period,British travelers wrote about Ireland or reflected the high and proud mentality of Britain in the social context of that time;Or take oneself as a mirror and write Ireland as a utopia far away from industrial civilization.For Irish people,I will classify them based on their different attitudes towards writing about Ireland.Some Irish people take pride in the culture of their hometown and strive to praise Ireland in their writings.The other part is more identified with the Irish people as citizens of the Irish region of the British Empire rather than independent countries,which is also reflected in the writing.This article concerns that in the travel notes of this period,the different narratives of both sides also reflect their different demands.Among British travelers,such demands are either related to the construction of empires or to the neglect of "Irish nature" in favor of establishing a larger "British nature".Among Irish people,there are different performances.This article intends to analyze the underlying causes of its appeal and purpose through comparative literature iconography and travel literature related theories. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Merger of Britain and Ireland, Travel Notes Research, Landscape research, English Travels Written in Ireland | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
