"Old" originated from the unique outlook on life and experience of the ancients, and is a composite concept rich in national characteristics and aesthetic meaning. As one of the categories of ancient poetry,"old" is not only a value orientation, but also a creative pursuit and aesthetic ideal in the minds of poets of all generations.Unfortunately, the "old" category has not yet attracted sufficient attention from the academic community. Therefore,in order to further deepen the understanding of "old",this paper will take the category of "old" in ancient Chinese poetry as the research object, and focus on its evolution, aesthetic connotation and aesthetic value. The first chapter of the paper sorts out the historical evolution of the "old" category."Old" entered the aesthetic field after a long evolutionary process, and gradually evolved into one of the important poetic categories.this chapter takes the four historical stages before the Wei,Jin,Northern and Southern Dynasties,Sui and Tang Dynasties,Song,Jin,and Yuan Dynasties, and Ming and Qing Dynasties as the starting point, attempting to clarify the establishment, development, and summary period of "old" as an aesthetic category,in order to better lay a foundation for the discussion later. The second chapter explores the aesthetic connotation of the "old" category from a multidimensional perspective."Aging of poetry" is not only the sublimation of the poet’s own cultivation and life experience, but also a sign of the maturity and natural nature of poetry works, and also the appreciation standard in the minds of critics. As far as the main body of creation is concerned, the "oldness" of people is mainly reflected in the cultivation of their spirit, the ability to learn both, and the poor and the later work.As far as poetry works are concerned, the "old" of poetry is mainly embodied in the harmony and unity of qi,meaning and environment.Among them, the "old" of qi refers to the vigorous and powerful inside the organism of the work, and the smooth fullness of one breath; The meaning of "old" refers to the euphemism and subtlety of the poem’s words; The "old" of the realm refers to the artistic realm in which poetry is pursued out of exercise but does not lose its natural nature. At the level of aesthetic appreciation,"old" is mainly embodied in the implicit implicit beauty, which is specifically displayed through aesthetic characteristics such as bitter and sweet, light and thick taste, old and spicy taste. The third chapter explores the relationship between "old" and many aesthetic categories from the perspective and inclusiveness of "old"."Old" is often used to express the overall realm of poetry, and its specific aesthetic connotation needs to be displayed through integration and contrast with other aesthetic categories. The fourth chapter explores the aesthetic value of the "old" category.First of all,as a philosophy of life contains Chinese unique view of life, the "old" category is the crystallization of traditional Chinese aesthetic thought.Secondly,"old" has a strong tolerance and is a collection of many poetic propositions with dialectical meaning. Finally,as a value standard has exemplary significance, the “old” represents the highest artistic realm in many artistic fields, and marks the ideal pursuit and value model of ancient Chinese art creation and appreciation.
