A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Contemporary Female Novel The Words We Whisper From The Perspective Of Feminist Translation Theory

This thesis is a translation practice report,which selects the western contemporary female novel the Words We Whisper for translation.Reflecting the awakening of contemporary female consciousness and the germination of early female consciousness,this literary work describes the life and values of Western women during World War II and the contemporary era.At the same time,it is also an anti-war novel that recalls the suffering memory of World War II.There are a large number of detailed descriptions about women in the work,which deeply analyzes women’s inner world.It is at the top of Amazon’s list of women’s best-selling novels and has attracted the attention of readers all over the world.The translator selects the first,fourth and twenty seventh chapters of the book for translation.Before translation,the translator made a timetable,chose the computer-aided translation tool and the search engine,and summarized the three levels of feminism in the original text,namely,the female author’s special language style,the description of feminist consciousness and the portrayal of female images.When translating,the translator tries to ensure the accuracy of terms,preserve the style and connotation of the original text,and stick to feminist thought.since the original text is a literary work written by a female author,the translator tries to apply feminist translation theory in her translation practice.According to the three main concepts of feminist translation theory: the reinterpretation of fidelity,the translator’s subjectivity and the elimination of gender discrimination in translation,the translator uses the feminist translation theory tactic of prefacing and footnoting,supplementing and hijacking in the translation.Specifically,the preface introduces the translator’s translation process and intention;Footnotes and supplementary cases highlights the motivation and description of women’s behavior and the performance of emotional psychology.This strategy is also the most used in the translation.Hijacking cases do not appear much in the translation,but it is a bold recreation.The translator makes the implicit female theme description in the original text more explicit in order to further highlight the female theme.In summary,the translator applies all these feminist translation tactic in order to recreat female image,female consciousness,female psychology and female language style in the translation so as to make the translation achieve the purpose of deeply displaying women’s theme.The translator hopes to express the core of the female theme conveyed by the source text through the translation guided by the feminist translation theory.
