A Report On The Translation Of If It Bleeds(Excerpts) Based On Skopos Theory

Under the wave of world economic globalization,cultural exchanges between countries are becoming closer and closer.Therefore,foreign literary works have attracted the attention of more and more domestic readers.Among them,horror novels,as a type of popular novels,are deeply loved by readers,but few people in China have conducted in-depth translation research on such texts.The reason why horror fictions are so popular is inseparable from its horror and strange atmosphere,which makes people feel like they are in the plot and fascinating.The author selected Mr.Harrigan’s Phone from the horror novella If It Bleeds as the translation practice text,which was published by the well-known American writer Stephen King in 2020.Based on the guidance of Skopos Theory and following the three principles of Skopos Theory,namely skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,this report researches and summarizes the translation practice of text.Firstly,the author of the selected texts and the background knowledge of the works are introduced,and the importance and purpose of this translation practice are explained.Secondly,it analyzes the source text and summarizes the translation process through three links: pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation assessment.Then it introduces the three principles of Skopos Theory,and under the guidance of this theory,the author uses translation methods and strategies such as amplification,subtraction,sentence conversion and cohesion from the three aspects of vocabulary,sentence and text to make the translation vividly convey the intention of the original work.Finally,case analysis methods are made to summarize the gains in translation practice.For horror novels,the biggest purpose of translation is to make readers feel the horror atmosphere of the original work,so when translating,it is necessary to reproduce the style of the original work to the greatest extent,and also to meet the reading habits of the target readers.The author’s translation research is helpful to promote the development of foreign literature in the domestic market,and hopes to provide reference suggestions for translators participating in the translation practice of similar texts.
