Tao Xiang(August 13,1870 — February 7,1940),courtesy name Lanquan,nickname Sheyuan.A native of Wujin,Jiangsu(now Changzhou,Jiangsu).A famous financier,bibliophile,and book engraver in my country.It has an important influence in the fields of book collection,engraving and publishing.But so far there are no detailed and systematic articles on Tao Xiang’s life,and most of them are "science popularization" articles that briefly introduce the basic situation of his life.The intention of writing this article is to try to make up for this deficiency.This article will start with the collection of historical materials and textual research in the form of a chronicle,based on "A Brief Account of the Seventy Years of Taoxiangzi Lanquanhao Sheyuan",combined with the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.Various newspaper records of the period,correspondence between Tao Xiang and his friends,Tao Xiang’s articles,Tao Xiang’s friends,etc.,and Tao Xiang’s youth,political career,financial and industrial periods,and book engraving and writing periods are analyzed.Research and sort out to enrich the records of Tao Xiang’s life activities,and show Tao Xiang’s life story as comprehensively as possible.This article is mainly divided into four parts: Fanli,a brief list of Dow’s genealogy,a brief biography of Tao Xiang,and the main text of the Chronicle.Among them,Fanli mainly introduces the writing style of this article;Tao Xiang’s lineage summary table sorts out the lineage information of four generations of Tao Xiang’s grandfather,Tao Xiang’s father,Tao Xiang brothers and his son;Tao Xiang’s biography mainly introduces from four aspects summarized in the main text The biography of Tao Xiang is introduced;the text of the chronicle introduces Tao Xiang’s life and deeds in detail,which is the main content of this article.
