Yellow Water Ballad is the fourth movement in the Yellow River Chorus, written by Guang Weiran and composed by Xian Xinghai. It is a classic work that inherits the red gene, reflecting the spirit of patriotism and embodying the national spirit of the Chinese people.During my postgraduate study,I practiced and rehearsed Yellow Water Ballad for the 2021 student Philharmonic Choir of Nanchang University, which provided me with inspiration to write college chorus teaching practices and explorations based on the red gene background. This study takes the red gene as the starting point, and connects the red gene with college chorus teaching practice, ultimately using chorus methods to inherit the red gene. This article focuses on the relevant analysis and practice of the mixed chorus Yellow Water Ballad.First,it analyzes the red elements in Yellow Water Ballad, reflecting the red elements through analyzing the musical structure and emotional expression of Yellow Water Ballad. Then, the author analyzes the practical application of the red mixed chorus Yellow Water Ballad, including a multidimensional exploration of Yellow Water Ballad and a brief overview of desk work. Finally, the conclusion and prospect of chorus teaching practice in colleges and universities with the background of red gene inheritance are drawn. This not only makes use of creating a unique college red chorus education brand, but also allows the red gene to penetrate into the hearts of college students.
