Structure And Expression-A Study Of The Practice Of Creating Watercolour Paintings In The Series Of ’Li·Wu’

At present,Chinese watercolour painting has entered a period of prosperity,and its forms of artistic expression are becoming increasingly diverse,with increasing emphasis on the communication of the structure and expression of the picture,constantly displaying the spirit of innovation and the spirit of the times.As the artistic expression that makes up the picture,structure and expression are like the skeleton of the work,always running through the picture as a whole,thus conveying the artist’s spiritual aspirations.Although watercolour painting is an imported product from the West,contemporary Chinese watercolour painters do not stick to the traditional Western watercolour form,they fully draw on traditional Chinese painting concepts and combine Western concepts and painting expression techniques to create and explore a new painting language,enriching the artistic vitality of watercolour painting.Through a study of the literature and outstanding works on structure and expression in painting,this paper explores the value of its application and artistic language,taking the series of watercolour paintings ’Ri-thing’ as an example.The first part is an explanation of the concepts of "structure" and "expression",and a profound analysis of the artists’ works.The second and third parts are the core of the paper,which is the author’s exploration of the artists and their works,sorting out the diversity of structure and expression in their works,applying them to his own creation of watercolour paintings based on old Hainan Li objects,fusing traditional Chinese culture with modern culture,seeking the visual impact and aesthetic interest brought by the images;the fourth part is to reflect on the meaning of the author’s works and the problems encountered in their creation,summarising and filling in the gaps.Through the exploration and study of structure and expression in painting and its development status,the author clearly understands the trend of the development of the formal language of watercolour painting and enriches his own practical ability,painting concept and spiritual pursuit,so as to create watercolour works with diversified painting language.
