Left-behind children often exhibit externalizing behavior problems, which have drawn widespread attention from society.Externalizing behavior refers to aggressive and antisocial behaviors displayed by children and adolescents, such as fighting, bullying, theft, and vandalism. These behaviors not only have negative impacts on individuals’ physical and mental health, but also on school safety and social stability.Social support,as an important influencing factor on left-behind children’s externalizing behavior, and cognitive stimulation support,as an important type of social support, play a crucial role in alleviating externalizing behavior. Therefore, this paper explores the impact of cognitive stimulation support on left-behind children’s externalizing behavior from the perspective of support systems. This paper used a questionnaire survey to collect data from 313 left-behind children in 16 classes of three middle schools in Deyang City. The cognitive stimulation activity checklist, positive psychological quality scale, and externalizing behavior scale were used to collect relevant data on left-behind children’s cognitive stimulation support and externalizing behavior. The study aimed to examine the characteristics of externalizing behavior and the impact of cognitive stimulation support on externalizing behavior. The main results are as follows:(1)Externalizing behavior problems in lower-grade left-behind children are severe, and there is a significant gender difference, with boys more prone to externalizing behavior problems than girls.Cognitive stimulation support for left-behind children is inadequate, and there is no significant difference between genders.(2)The correlation analysis results show that there is a significant negative correlation between cognitive stimulation support and left-behind children’s externalizing behavior, and a significant negative correlation between positive psychological quality and externalizing behavior. There is a significant positive correlation between cognitive stimulation support and positive psychological quality.(3)The results of the mediation analysis indicate that cognitive stimulation support can negatively affect left-behind children’s externalizing behavior through the mediating effect of positive psychological quality. The indirect effect accounts for 88.1% of the total effect and is significant. In summary, this paper suggests that cognitive stimulation support negatively affects leftbehind children’s externalizing behavior indirectly through the mediating effect of positive psychological quality.Based on this, helping left-behind children establish a cognitive stimulation support system and providing cognitive, emotional, and behavioral support for them are of great significance for reducing externalizing behavior problems among left-behind children.
