Today’s world economy is in an unstable and complex situation. Many students study economics to learn how to make the world a better place, and they quickly discover that studying economics is studying what economists do,and the question is whether what economists do is fit for the purpose of making the world a better place.Robert Skidelsky elaborates on the problem and tries to address it.Continuous updating of research results in the economic field is of great significance to the economic development of our country and even the world, and the translation of economic and trade text plays a positive role in this process. This translation practice report is based on What’s Wrong with Economics. This text belongs to the economic and trade text, whose language is standardized, objective and rigorous, there are substantial professional vocabularies and long complex sentences in the text, which is the key problem to be solved. The practice report consists of five parts: introduction, description of translation task, translation procedure, case analysis and conclusion, among which case analysis is the main content.Under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory, this practice report discusses the translation skills and methods of economic and trade texts from both lexical and syntactic aspects. At the lexical level,it adopts conversion, amplification and provincial omission to maintain its language style characteristics. At the syntactic level, the passive sentences and long difficult sentences in the original text are translated by the means of inversion, division, recasting and etc.to ensure that the information of the original text is fully and accurately conveyed. This translation practice report analyzes and summarizes the problems in translation. It is expected to provide some references for the application of Functional Equivalence Theory in economic and trade text translation in the future.
