| As a Chinese painting discipline with architectural subjects as its main expression,Jiehua had a history of unprecedented prosperity in the Song and Yuan dynasties. In Tang Hou’s《Hua Jian》of the Yuan Dynasty and Tao Zongyi’s《Chuo Geng Lu》of the Ming Dynasty,it even became one of the "thirteen disciplines of painters" alongside landscape and bird and flower subjects. This paper selects the time when the discipline of Jiehua developed in the Song and Yuan dynasties until it became a completely independent subject, and takes the research on Jiehua by Wang Zhenpeng, the "first person of Jiehua in the Yuan dynasty" as a clue to explore the issue of constructing the discipline of Jiehua. From the many historical sources that talk about the distinction of painting disciplines, the essence of the division of Chinese painting is the distinction of subject matter. Therefore, this paper firstly sorts out the different meanings of the term "Jiehua" in ancient and modern literature, and explains that it has only been defined to refer to architectural subject matter painting since the Yuan Dynasty, and then divides the research on Wang Zhenpeng’s Jiehua into two parts. On the inside,we explore the breakthroughs in form and style and the typicality of Wang Zhenpeng’s painting discipline from commonality to individuality;on the outside,we take the background of the times and the accumulation of previous experience as the premise, and further summarize the positive contribution of Wang Zhenpeng’s artistic attainments and the influence of the times to the construction of the discipline of Jiehua. The conclusion is that Wang Zhenpeng contributed to the formation of a social ecology conducive to the development of the discipline of Jiehua, balanced the technical and artistic attributes of the discipline, and created a unique style for the discipline of Jiehua that is suitable for the expression of architectural subjects using forms and artistic brushwork, thus further linking the relationship between architectural subject painting and Jiehua. |
