The rapid development of the Internet and technology has led to a rapid change in people’s mindset,and in an information-rich and ever-changing world,children need a more engaging and enjoyable paper-based reading experience.In the process of children’s cognitive development,children’s picture books play a crucial role in reading and literacy,but the current design of children’s picture books has the shortcomings of ignoring the differences in children’s cognitive abilities at different stages and neglecting the children’s picture book reading experience.A multidimensional design idea can both promote the unique advantages of paper picture books and improve the pain points that paper picture books urgently need to address,providing a richer reading experience for children’s reading initiation and reading process.Therefore,based on children’s cognitive development theory,this study analyzes the children’s group,reading process and picture book carrier,combines user research and hierarchical analysis to analyze the needs of children reading picture books,and analyzes the weighting of visual,auditory and tactile sensory experiences as the foundation factors of multidimensional reading situations.Finally,the multidimensional experience is introduced into the design of paper-based children’s picture books,and innovative design strategies are proposed in three aspects: sensory dimensions,reading levels and multidimensional contexts,in order to create a reading experience based on multidimensional contexts.This study first compares and reviews relevant domestic and international research on the multidimensional reading experience of children’s picture books from three perspectives:picture books,children’s cognitive development theory and multidimensional reading,which provides favorable support for the subsequent research on children’s picture book reading experience.On this basis,the overall research framework is constructed based on children’s cognitive development theory and the multidimensional experience perspective as an entry point.Then,the sensory development characteristics of children aged 3-6 are summarized at the level of sight,sound and touch,and the reading behaviors of children in this age group are analyzed with design cases,and the design characteristics of children’s picture books from a multidimensional perspective are summarized from three aspects: game interaction,three-dimensional space and picture book materials.Through user interviews and hierarchical analysis,the behavioral habits,realistic expectations and potential needs of children when reading picture books were explored in depth,and different levels of preschool children’s picture book reading needs in three sensory dimensions: visual,auditory and tactile,which provided data support for the subsequent design strategies.Then,combined with children’s cognitive development characteristics,the design of multidimensional reading experience design of paper picture books for children aged 3-6 years is clarified from three levels,which analyze the design characteristics of children’s picture books under visual information,auditory resources and tactile sensation from the sensory dimension,discuss the diversity of picture book reading styles,reading processes and reading clues from the reading level,and propose the design principles of interactive experience,reading scenario creation,and technological process innovation from the multidimensional context,The design principles of interactive experience,reading scenario creation,and technical process innovation are proposed from the multi-dimensional context.Finally,through the application of design practice,the effectiveness of the multidimensional reading experience design method is demonstrated and evaluated.Taking science picture books as design carriers,we analyze the design trends of excellent science picture books,summarize the design characteristics of scientific content,interesting form,artistic expression and educational process,combine the multidimensional reading experience design method with the actual creation of science picture books,and explore the reading experience potential of paper children’s picture books.
