As a medium for educational enlightenment,children’s picture books are a special cultural output and an important way for children to understand the world and learn knowledge.The rise of current cultural confidence,the impact of electronic media,the rise of the experience economy,and the transformation of design thinking have all put forward new requirements for the design of children’s picture books.We urgently need to promote the creation of local picture books that keep pace with the times.The addition of the five senses not only conforms to the characteristics of the times,but also breaks the thinking pattern of picture book design,breaks through the confinement on the plane,and strengthens its own guiding cognitive function,which is a valuable research direction.This paper comprehensively uses literature research method,case analysis method and questionnaire survey method to carry out specific research.On the basis of sorting out the existing theoretical data,the performance of the five senses is divided into two categories: the dominant five senses and the recessive five senses,and the demonstration and research are carried out with examples.According to Piaget’s cognitive development stage theory and Ron Field’s painting development stage theory,the psychological cognitive characteristics and physiological behavior characteristics of children at different growth stages are analyzed,and the design strategies for each stage are simply sorted out in combination with the five senses theory.Based on the educational concepts put forward by educators such as Spencer,Comenius,and Montessori,this paper analyzes the advantages of five-sense picture books in enhancing interest,intuition,experience and aesthetics and the current limitations in empirical errors and carrier constraints,and summed up the three principles of five sense picture book design.At the practical level,the design and creation are carried out on the basis of user research,and the design comprehensive feedback is given to the creation results to further verify the value of the combination of sensory elements and children’s picture books in enhancing reading interest,enhancing reading experience and deepening reading comprehension.Finally,the overall research of this topic is summarized and prospected,which provides theoretical guidance and practical reference for the application of the five senses concept in the design of children’s picture books,provides a feasible reference for the development direction of my country’s original children’s picture books,and also contributes to children’s education.
