| English writing is an important part of junior high school English teaching,which is one of the basic language skills that junior high school students must master,the requirement of English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)(hereinafter referred to as the New English Curriculum Standard)for students to develop their language competence,and also a vital content of the senior high school entrance examination.Writing competence can reflect students’ comprehensive acquisition of language knowledge and the cultivation level of core qualities.Therefore,it is particularly important to choose scientific and effective writing teaching methods to develop junior high school students’ writing competence.Since the promulgation of the New English Curriculum Standard,English writing teaching in junior high school has attracted widespread attention from the academic circle.Although various teaching modes of English writing teaching have been tried,the teaching effect of English writing in junior high school is not significantly improved.The main problems are as follows:(1)Input skill and output skill are separated in English writing teaching in junior high school,and students lack opportunities for comprehensive writing training.(2)Students’ writing is short of language materials,and problems such as incomplete content,incorrect use of language and disorganized structure exist in their writing.(3)Learning strategies are single,writing training is not effective,and writing motivation of students is not high.Therefore,it is necessary to improve the effect and efficiency of English writing teaching in junior high school.Based on the systematic theory of production-oriented approach(POA),language input hypothesis and language output hypothesis,this study applies POA to integrated reading and writing instruction and intends to build the teaching mode of POA-based integrated reading and writing in English writing teaching in junior high school,aiming at strengthening the effect of integrated reading and writing teaching and improving the English writing competence of junior high school students.On the principle of voluntariness,76 students from two parallel classes in Grade 9 of junior high school in Z city of J province were selected as the experimental participants,with Class 1 as the experimental class and Class 2 as the control class.The experimental class adopted the teaching mode of POA-based integrated reading and writing in English writing teaching in junior high school,while the control class chooses the PWP mode to carry out English writing teaching.The irrelevant variables were controlled in the experiment.The research mainly discusses the following questions:(1)To what extent are the content integrity,language accuracy and discourse coherence of students’ English writing?(2)Is the teaching mode of POA-based integrated reading and writing in English writing teaching in junior high school effective in improving students’ writing competence,and what impact does it have on the content integrity,language accuracy and discourse coherence of writing?(3)What’s the impact of this teaching mode has on students’ writing attitude?The teaching experiment lasted from March 7,2022 to May 20,2022.The results of the experiment are as follows:(1)The students’ self-evaluation scores on the content integrity,language accuracy and discourse coherence of writing have improved significantly in the experimental class,apparently different from those in the control class.(2)The total scores of writing performance in the experimental class,as well as the sub-scores of the content integrity,language accuracy and discourse coherence have improved to some extent,different from those in the control class.(3)Majority of students have a high degree of recognition for the teaching mode of POA-based integrated reading and writing in English writing teaching,which can improve their writing attitude and promote writing enthusiasm.According to the experimental results,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Some students aren’t satisfied with their writing competence and consider the content integrity,language accuracy and discourse coherence of their writing are weak.(2)The teaching mode can effectively enhance students’ writing competence,including the improvement of content integrity,language accuracy and discourse coherence of their writing.(3)The teaching mode can effectively improve students’ writing attitude and promote their writing enthusiasm.This study applies POA to integrated reading and writing instruction in junior high school,constructs the teaching mode of POA-based integrated reading and writing,which guides students to master and skillfully use the “reading and writing” learning strategy and improves writing skills.What’s more,it enhances the effect and efficiency of English writing teaching.However,due to the limitations of experimental time,the number of experimental objects and teaching conditions,the research on the effectiveness of the teaching mode of POA-based integrated reading and writing is not deep enough.It is hoped that in the future research,researchers can extend the research time and expand the sample of research objects to explore the impact of the teaching mode of POA-based integrated reading and writing on other aspects of junior high school students’ English writing. |
