Reading and writing are important language skills in English learning.Reading is the main way of language input and writing is one of the ways of language expression,and there is an inseparable connection between the two.The organic combination of reading and writing can improve the effectiveness of language input,and at the same time improve students’ writing ability,that is,the effectiveness of output.However,in the actual classroom teaching,teaching is fragmented,so some students are unclear about the characteristics of discourse,language logic and stylistic structure after reading.They cannot write based on reading input,either.Some students rely too much on the teacher’s explanation and do not develop good reading habits.Students are naturally afraid of reading and writing.The production-oriented approach(Production-oriented Approach)is proposed to solve the problem of the separation of learning and use in foreign language teaching in China’s colleges and universities,and the positive practice of the majority of researchers proves that it has a positive impact on improving learners’ emotional attitudes and improving learners’ pragmatic ability.In order to improve the current teaching situation and actively explore new methods of English reading and writing teaching in junior high schools as well as cultivate students’ literacy ability of junior high school students,the author tries to apply the POA proposed by Wen Qiufang and her team to the teaching of junior high school English reading and writing,aiming to study the impact of POA on the English reading and writing ability of ninth grade students in junior high school.The research questions are as follows:(1)How does the integrated reading and writing teaching based on POA affect students’ writing content,language and structure?(2)Does the integrated reading and writing teaching based on POA have an impact on students’ interest in English reading and writing?In this study,two classes of students in the ninth grade of a junior high school in Qujing City,Yunnan Province,were studied,and the students of the two classes did not have significant differences in their scores in the pre-test writing ability test,and both were taught by the author.In the 16-week experiment,the experimental group adopted a combination of English reading and writing based on POA,while the control group still used traditional teaching.The research tool used were pre-tests,post-tests and interviews.Questionnaires and interviews were used to explore the impact of the application of output orientation on students’ literacy ability,and the results of the before and after tests were compared to determine whether students’ writing ability had improved in terms of content,language and structure.After the end of the experiment,the author collected the data and used SPSS 25.0to analyze the data and found that although there was significant difference in the writing ability of the students in the first two classes of the experiment,the results of the post-test results of the two classes showed that there was a significant difference in the writing ability of the two classes after the experiment,and the average score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group,which showed that the application of POA in the teaching of literacy and writing improved the literacy ability of the students to a certain extent.The application of POA can not only stimulate students’ motivation to read and write,especially the improvement of self-efficacy,but also effectively improve the English writing ability of junior high school students in terms of vocabulary,grammar and composition articulation.At the same time,the author has also found some enlightenment for the teaching of writing in junior high schools: teachers need to constantly update the teaching concept of writing,and actively explore new teaching methods for problems arising in writing teaching;Secondly,in the teaching of writing,teachers should pay attention to the cultivation of students’ writing learning strategies,such as striving to cultivate students’ migration ability and creative ability.Due to subjective and objective reasons,the instructional design of this study still needs to be improved.Future research can subdivide research objects at different levels and explore more effective ways to combine English reading and writing teaching. |
