The lyrics of the ancient poetry art song "Yue Xia Du Zhuo" are selected from the most well-known one of the four poems in a group poem written by Li Bai,the great romantic poet of the Tang Dynasty. The poem depicts the poet drinking with his shadow and the moon. With a singular and romantic imagination,it reflects the poet’s proud and aloof loneliness of his unrecognized talents,as well as his wild and optimistic personality despite his disappointment.Wang Long, the composer, used many modern composing techniques to bring out the images and emotions portrayed in this ancient poem, creating a new lasting appeal. The work is sung by Yi Liqi,a Mongolian baritone who is a doctoral candidate at the China Conservatory of Music, giving it an ethnic character. This thesis is divided into three chapters. The preface explains the significance, current status and innovation of this study. The first chapter introduces the creation background of the ancient poetry art song "Yue Xia Du Zhuo",the development of Chinese ancient poetry art songs as well as Li Bai and Wang Long.Chapter 2 analyzes the musical characteristics of the work and the artistic features of the lyrics.Chapter 3 analyzes the versions sung by Yi Liqi and Ma Xiaoming, two singers with different vocal parts, and summarizes the singing techniques and stage practice of this song. Finally, the conclusion part summarizes the entire thesis.
