"The Greening" is a Japanese zither music created by composer Minoru Miki in 1976.Due to its short length, the "preface" part was added to match the overseas performance. In the late 1970 s,with the Japanese zither Troupe performing in China,Japanese zither music gradually spread in China,"The Greening" has also become a compulsory work for professional colleges and universities in the examination of performance and seven-tone zither learning. This paper first introduces the two versions of "The Greening" and the general situation of the music, and analyzes the composition principles and motivation development of the music in Japan. On this basis, the music is analyzed in sections. Then, through the comparison and analysis of the different versions of "The Greening" between China and Japan from the shallow to the deep, the paper summarizes the embodiment of "Japanese style" on the Chinese 21-string zither. And further explore the causes of the differences between the two countries from the development of zither instruments and different musical ideas.Through the comparative understanding of the Japanese 20-string zither and the Chinese seven-tone zither,it is helpful to give play to its own performance characteristics while playing without losing its "Japanese style",so as to further understand and grasp this piece of music, and also provide some ideas for other Chinese players who play Japanese zither music.
