A Metaphorical Study Of "Rabbit" In Animal Theme Oil Painting

Since ancient times,rabbits have rich cultural connotations,which exist in various artistic forms in literature,painting,and image art.The "rabbit" culture in China has various forms of expression: the ancient fairy tales "Chang’e Rushing to the Moon","Jade Rabbit Tamping Medicines",the three rabbits sharing an ear in Dunhuang murals,the rabbit in Chinese paintings with beautiful connotations,and the poetry that symbolizes the moon with the rabbit,etc;In other regions,rabbits are also endowed with other meanings due to local culture: symbols of vitality,metaphors of "virginity" and "lust",and symbolic meanings of "unknown" and "lucky".In animal themed paintings,creators use animal images and their implied meanings to express themselves and reflect on the objective world.Paintings of rabbits present different styles of painting: imitation of nature,using rabbits as a metaphor carrier,and using rabbits only as screen elements or symbols in the language category of painting forms.Expressiveness refers to the structural nature and emotional meaning of expressing emotions possessed by aesthetic objects,while the expressiveness of animals in painting can be expressed through different painting languages and the personality characteristics of creators.Therefore,this thesis focuses on the expressiveness of rabbits in paintings as the research object to explore the diverse expressiveness of rabbits in animal themed oil paintings.The first chapter of this thesis explains the cultural connotation of "rabbit" in China and other regions,which helps to analyze relevant painting works under the same cultural background,and provides inspiration and reference significance for the author’s personal creation;The second chapter analyzes the classical painting works containing the image of "rabbit",summarizes the similarities and differences between these works,and analyzes the painting language and conceptual expression in the works;The third chapter,based on the theoretical basis of the above research,conducts personal creative practice,explaining how to effectively combine the expression of personal emotions and concepts with the image of the "rabbit".This chapter will discuss the inspiration concept,the thinking and reference of painting language during the creative process,and the final presentation of the work.
