As globalization deepens, there is a high degree of population mobility within and between countries, including forced migrants, whose experiences and immigration status often leave them facing disadvantaged or isolated lives, many with varying degrees of mental illness but little chance of seeking help. The research in this field is relatively mature in developed countries. The domestic research,in contrast,is slightly insufficient. Therefore, the English-Chinese translation of relevant materials in this field is of important reference and practical significance. This translation practice covers the first three chapters of the academic work Intercultural Psychotherapy, which mainly discusses the historical background of intercultural psychotherapy, the role of intercultural therapy in today’s society and the standards of treatment.Based on relevance theory, this translation practice report attempts to solve problems from the understanding of the original text and the expression of the target text,so as to achieve the best relevance between the target text and the reader by applying different translation methods such as choosing the right word meaning, specifying demonstrative pronouns, combing out the logic of the original text and simplifying the expressions in the target language. This translation practice report has deepened the author’s understanding of relevance theory and its application in translation practice. At the same time, the author hopes that readers can learn more about cross-cultural psychotherapy through this translation.
