This translation report is based on the translation practice of Chapter 1 to Chapter 4 of The Men.By focusing on the experiences of several different female characters, this text describes how women overcome the sadness, face the reality and rebuild the world after the disappearance of men,and also points out the difficult circumstances and unfair treatment of women in real life. This report mainly summarizes the problems encountered in the translation process and focuses on the translation methods and techniques of conceptual metaphors in English novel texts. As a novel text, the language of the source text has a colloquial, vivid and emotional style. Therefore, the author of the source text used a large number of conceptual metaphors in the dialogues and descriptions of the characters’ psychological activities, which not only makes the expression of the text vivid, but also stimulates the readers’ imagination, attracts the readers’ interest in reading, and improves the literary quality of the text language. In the process of translation, due to the differences in language and culture between Chinese and English, how to restore the structure and implicit information of metaphors in the novel text is the main difficulty in translation.Based on the conceptual metaphor theory, the translator divides the metaphors in the source text into three categories: structural metaphors, orientational metaphors and ontological metaphors. In order to achieve the goal of conveying the information and reflecting the writer’s intention of the source text, the translator mainly adopts literal translation and free translation, supplemented by translation skills such as conversion, extension and additional translation to deal with these metaphors.Meanwhile, the author expounds the translation difficulties and solutions of these three kinds of metaphors,so as to maximize the representation of the source text’s information, ensure the smoothness of the translation, and restore the language style of the novel text.By writing this translation report, the author hopes to provide some reference for the translators who will study this kind of text and finish subsequent work in the future.
