A Report On C-E Translation Of Metaphors In Chinese Political News

Along with the improving international status of China,Chinese political news has attracted public attention from the world.The accurate translations of metaphors,which play an important role in political news,are the key issues in political news translation.The author selects the political news in China Daily in Chinese version(from May,2017 to July,2018)as the source text,totally about 13,000 Chinese characters,and focuses on the metaphors translation in political news.Lakoff and Johnson have distinguished three categories of Conceptual Metaphors: Structural Metaphors,Ontological Metaphors and Orientational Metaphors.Because of the low frequency of Orientational Metaphors in the present data,the report mainly focuses on the semantic analysis and translation of Structural Metaphors and Ontological Metaphors.In the process of translation,the author adopts three strategies,that is,maintaining the metaphors of source image in the target text,which is mainly applied to the translation of WAR metaphors,PLANT metaphors,CONTAINER metaphors and HUMAN MENTAL STATE metaphors;substituting metaphors in target language for source metaphors,which is applied to the translation of ENTITY metaphors,MUSIC metaphors and a few WAR metaphors;and free translation with metaphors omitted,which is applied to the translation of FAMILY metaphors and HUMAN PHYSIOLOGICAL FUNCTION metaphors.The report will certainly provide implications for metaphors translation in political news,metaphors research and news translations as well as further communicate China's political ideas and position,spread Chinese values and enhance the international identification of Chinese political ideas.
