Improper pause is an inevitable problem for interpreters in the process of Chinese-English consecutive interpretation.Improper pauses are more common for translators whose native language is not the target language.The huge difference between Chinese and English languages will cause improper pauses and low language quality.There are many reasons for improper pauses,including the mastery of background knowledge,the understanding of terminology,and the processing of interpreting notes.Improper pauses will affect the interpreter’s performance on the one hand and weaken self-confidence;On the other hand,it will make it hard for audience to understand because of no coherence.In this paper,the author will take the mock meeting of "Deepening the Challenges and Innovations of Healthcare Reform" as an example to study and analyze the improper pauses that occurred in the process of consecutive interpreting.Based on the existing research on improper pauses,combined with this example,the coping strategies will be explored.This research analysis will help the author to further find out the causes of improper pauses in the application of Chinese-English consecutive interpretation,and then give corresponding solutions.At the same time,it can also provide reference significance for other interpreters and peers. |
