This article takes the modeling language of painting as the main thread,taking Dunhuang animal paintings from the Tang and Five Dynasties and illustrations under traditional aesthetics as examples,and explores the commonalities of mural modeling language in illustration creation.The Dunhuang murals of the Tang Dynasty were the heyday of the development of cave mural art,marking that in the historical development of the fusion of East and West,Dunhuang murals had fully formed their own Han and Tang ethnic characteristics,and were a typical paradigm of Chinese style murals.During this period,various types of art in Dunhuang Grottoes flourished,and animal paintings also reached maturity.The focus of this article is to localize the use of animal shapes in murals for illustration creation,and explore how to integrate the characteristics of illustration with traditional culture.This article first provides a brief overview of the types of animals in Dunhuang during this period,and then based on specific mural images,analyzes the modeling characteristics from the lines,plane forms,color configurations,artistic forms,and other aspects of animal images.Then,around the expression content and form of animal modeling language and traditional aesthetic illustration works,it analyzes the similarities in expression techniques between the two,and discusses how to integrate modeling language into illustration creation,Finally,based on the author’s own artistic practice,this article elaborates on how to use animal modeling language for illustration creation.
