Research On The Image Techniques Of Flowers And Animals In Dunhuang Frescoes In The Tang And Five Dynasties

Most of the research on "flower and bird paintings" in Tang and Five Dynasties took the mural painting in tomb chamber and the historical works as the main research objects.There are fewer "flower and bird paintings" in the mural painting in tomb chamber.Although there are "flower and bird paintings" in strict academic sense,they are poorly preserved,relatively single in style,and the relevant intuitive information can not be obtained from the criticism of art history.However,the Dunhuang frescoes preserve more images of flowers,plants and animals of Tang and Five Dynasties,and these images of flowers,plants and animals have a more obvious Central Plains style.Therefore,this paper will try to prove the similarity of painting techniques,styles and aesthetic images between the images of flowers,plants and animals in Dunhuang frescoes of the Tang and Five Dynasties and the flower and bird paintings and animal paintings of the Tang Dynasty.This paper will discuss the images of flowers,plants and animals in Dunhuang frescoes of the Tang and Five Dynasties,such as bamboo,lotus,banana,miscellaneous flowers,horses,lions,parrots and peacocks,in terms of techniques,shapes and styles,and compare them with the flower and bird paintings in tomb murals of the Tang and Five Dynasties,trying to confirm the similarity between them.It provides evidence that the images of flowers,plants and animals in Dunhuang frescoes of the Tang and Five Dynasties can be used as reference objects for the study of flower and bird paintings of the Tang and Five Dynasties.In addition,it explores the techniques of the flower and bird paintings of Huang Qi Xuxi and the origin of the"boneless paintings" of Xu Chongsi from the images of flowers,plants and animals in Dunhuang frescoes of the Tang and Five Dynasties.By sorting out these materials,we may be able to have a deeper and more three-dimensional understanding of the popular techniques,styles and modeling characteristics of flower and bird paintings and animal paintings in the Tang and Five Dynasties.
