Alex Colville was a famous Canadian painter of the 20 th century.Most of his paintings are based on real scenes in life.He skillfully integrates different things into a picture through rigorous composition,thus transforming the real scene into a situation with a sense of reality.The combination of elements in the picture has certain symbolism,and the clever design control of the picture maximizes the emotion to be expressed.In the practice of professional creation,the author is not clear about how to present the spiritual connotation of the inner ID in a tension.Therefore,combining with the artistic characteristics of Colville,the author makes an in-depth study of the expression form of the spiritual connotation of the ID in painting from the perspective of painting practice and painting expression form,so as to open up ideas for the author’s painting practice.By analyzing the presentation forms of image art in Colville’s artistic creations,this paper makes an in-depth study of how to maximize the individual artist’s experience and feelings on the subconscious world of the ID under the basic mode of taking painting works as the medium bridge.With the help of access to information,research artists related biography,articles and other means,the author sorts out Colville’s forms of expression in surrealist paintings and explores the aesthetic value embodied by the spiritual connotation of ID in surrealist paintings.Applying the accumulated experience of the summarized forms of expression into the author’s creation practice will be of great help to the author to master the expression language of the self spirit of painting.Finally,it analyzes the influence of the spiritual connotation of the ID on the way of presentation of the picture on the author’s creation and thinking,as well as the inspiration on the way of looking at problems and thinking.
