| Writing is an essential productive skill for English learning. However, teachers attach great importance to teaching templates in traditional writing classes while ignoring students’ language output. As a result, students’ interest in writing fades over time, and their writing ability stagnates.Meanwhile,Wen Qiufang(2015)proposes the “production-oriented approach”(POA)based on the existing Chinese language instruction context that learning is separated from using language. Therefore, based on POA,the author constructs the ARISE teaching mode(Attempt;Reading;Instruction;Student Cooperation;Evaluation),aiming to investigate the effects of this mode on senior high school students’ interest in writing and writing performance. The author conducts a 13-week empirical study on English writing teaching in two parallel classes in Senior Two,Shantou Special Economic Zone Linbaixin Middle School.Through questionnaires and English writing tests, this study discusses the three questions:(1)Compared with the traditional teaching mode, can the ARISE teaching mode based on POA improve students’ interest in English writing?(2)Compared with the traditional teaching mode, can the ARISE teaching mode based on POA improve students’ writing performance?(3)For students of different levels, does the ARISE teaching mode based on POA have the same effect on their writing performance? This study uses SPSS 25.0 to analyze the data of the questionnaires and writing tests. The results show that:(1)compared with the traditional teaching mode, the ARISE mode can improve students’ interest in writing more effectively. After the experiment, the writing interest of students in the experimental class increases from the moderate level to the positive level;(2)compared with the traditional teaching mode, the ARISE teaching mode based on POA can improve students’ writing performance more effectively;(3)for students of different levels, the ARISE teaching mode has diverse effects on their writing performance, with the low-level students presenting the most significant improvement, followed by the middle-level and high-level students. This study enriches the theoretical development of POA and offers a new teaching mode for English writing teaching in senior high school. |
