Hanging ash is a common painting technique in Chinese lacquer art.It refers to the artist mixing different types of ash with lacquer and applying them in the picture through appropriate tools and techniques,so that the muscle bottom of the picture is different from the two-dimensional picture of traditional lacquer painting,presenting a relative sense of volume and space.The ash itself is divided into different volumes and types,and the effect presented after combining with the paint is not the same.The emergence of the ash heap technique broke the principle of "flat and bright" that lacquer painting followed in the early days.The use of ash material,from the early stage as a solid bottom material,to the present artist with heap ash techniques to create a very contemporary works,its artistic value is worthy of being deeply explored.This paper will comb the historical development process of ash material and the performance of ash stacking techniques in different styles of lacquer painting works,and explore the aesthetic value of personal practice in lacquer painting.
