A Comparative Study Of Seal Cutting Between Zhao Zhiqian And Qi Baishi

Zhao Zhiqian and Qi Baishi,as two famous people in the history of seal cutting,have many similarities and differences in the study of seal cutting art.Both of them are masters,with a strong creative spirit,and have the achievements of poetry,calligraphy and printing.In calligraphy,both were influenced by the trend of stele in the Qing Dynasty,which made them the most powerful practitioners in the concept of stele.In the field of seal cutting,both of them started the Zhejiang school,and then printed the Qin and Han dynasties,dabbling in the imperial edict.On the basis of the predecessors,they have creatively inherited the concept of "printing from the book,the book from the book",and opened up their unique artistic appearance of seal cutting.Finally,the ancient tong changes,evolved a unique personal style.Both of them have the idea of "deliberately seeking new ideas" in the seal cutting,and various new explorations such as the seal script method,the knife method and the chapter method bring us the thinking space from multiple angles.When Qi Baishi was 43 years old,he got Zhao Zhiqian’s "Two Golden Butterfly Hall Printing Book" at Li Weisun’s home,which broadened his horizon.Since then,he has studied Zhao Zhiqian’s printing wind deeply,so he was greatly influenced by it.However,the innovation ways of the two in the history of seal cutting are different,so this paper makes a comparative analysis of the causes,the characteristics of seal cutting and the thought of seal cutting,and tries to provide an effective research way for the study of seal cutting and the theoretical system of seal cutting.
