The Seal Cutting Art Research Of Zhao Zhichen

Zhang Zhichen is the leading figure of Zhe School of seal cutting in Qing dynasty serving as a link between past and future.The thesis will discuss his lifetime and family background,teachers in his early years,the innovation in seal cutting,the dissemination and effects of seal study,and the evaluations from the temporal people and later generations to him.This paper will take the dissemination and analysis of Zhao's seal cutting works as the main line,which aims to get a better and further understanding of Zhao's arts and obtain an objective result of individual research.This thesis is divided into four parts that clarify historical facts and put forward opinions.Particularly,the following points are very crucial.First,the paper clarifies the friendship between Zhao's grandfather and father and the former six families of Zhe School.Second,Zhao's seal cutting works are not limited to the former stereotypes.Instead,he is affected by the rising of epigraphy in Jiajing and Daoguang period,so he is the innovative forerunner of the Zhe School of seal cutting.We should not treat him as the stylization.Third,the thesis teases and discusses friendship and affection between Zhao and Lin Yunlou who is a very important friend of Zhao.I think Liu and Zhao are what Wei Jiasun and Zhao Zhiqian.Because among the eight great artists of Zhe school,Zhao Zhiqian has caused the great influences on the seal cutting,and Lin Yunlou,the maker of collection of seal stamps,has made undeniable contributions,so both of them should not be ignored by us.Forth,the mixed comments on Zhao and the common reputations of his disciplines indicate some long-standing practices in the later period of Zhe School.Xu Sangeng and Zhao Zhiqian learned from Zhao at the early time,but in the end,they did not break the old habits and make any breakthroughs,which is an important lesson for us who engage in the seal cutting.Last,Zhao's works also have important influences on the cutting circle at the start of Meiji era.I will set kaishin Shinoda and Senro Kawai learning from Zhao as the example to explore the historical facts and communications between China and Japan.
