The Evolution Of American Adult Animation TV Series’ Communication Mode

American adult animation TV series,inherited the innovative spirit and modest animation technology of the American United Production Company in the 1940 s,came into being in the era of TV as the primary communication channel,and failed to be more influential than the live action films and TV dramas due to its scarcity of genres and limited media channels.However,when the era of Internet has arrived to have cultural fusion,subculture and other minority cultures more exposed to the public,American adult animated TV series are able to experiment with fusion themes and various genres,so as to gradually catch more public attention with their richer categories and more diversified forms in the era of mobile media,due to the wide application of smart devices and streaming media technology.Its popularity is reflected not only in the viewing volume of some works surpassing the most popular live-action sitcom,but also in the fact that more than 100 animation works are currently being produced on websites and TV networks.Although the research on American adult animated TV series in China is still generally covered by three categories including TV animation,adult animation,and American animation,as a cross-category product,it has become a separate category internationally.This paper conducts the research on the evolution of history,culture,and communication modes of American adult animated TV series over its developmental stages of foundation,birth,fusion,and popularity from three perspectives such as "development,characteristics,and essence".Moreover,it further explores the fundamental role of UPA limited animation,the guidance of sitcoms in the TV era,the cultural integration in the Internet era,and the development status of the mobile media era.Therefore,the commonality of categorized animation is abstracted as its characteristics by sorting out its developmental process based on the evolution of the communication mode,including the research on animation art such as communication methods,technical styles,narrative methods,and emotional experience of American adult animated TV series,while the essence that the American adult animated TV series is determined to be an animation category can be concluded at the philosophical and textual level,by focusing mainly on the analysis of metamorphosis metaphors,nihilism,and the concept of Death of the Author in American adult animated TV series.
