| Unlike Hayao Miyazaki’s works, which are realistic and elegant, full of children’s interest and keenly concerned with nature and the environment,as well as the dark aesthetic style of Mamoru Oshii, which is known for its obscure, stagnant, gray and complex themes,Satoshi Kon’s works make good use of beautiful and dazzling montage techniques, and always focus on the "human being" itself. He has created a new century of adult animated films by focusing on the "human being" itself. His surrealistic non-linear narrative, nested structure and reflection on the advancement of Internet technology are not only outstandingly prescient, but also have a conscious meta-cinematic awareness. The author attempts to explore the ways in which meta-cinematic narrative strategies in Satoshi Kon’s animated films are approached in the context of three of his works:Perfect Blue(1997),Millennium Actress(2001),and Paprika(2006),respectively,in terms of the relationship between Satoshi Kon’s works and meta-cinema,narrative techniques, thematic aesthetics and personal creative practice. The first chapter briefly describes the history of meta-cinema and introduces how the traces of meta-cinema are hidden in Satoshi Kon’s creative trajectory;the second chapter analyzes the narrative techniques of meta-cinema in the form and content of Satoshi Kon’s works, and analyzes how Satoshi Kon’s films accomplish the "Self-double reference" through meta-cinematic narrative techniques. The third chapter will explain how the meta-film narrative strategy is applied in the creation of his personal video work "Later Spring",and through the in-depth study and practical creation of the meta-film narrative strategy in Satoshi Kon’s works, complete the study of the use of meta-film narrative strategy in film and television works. |
