The art song,as a vocal genre that is both artistic and literary, first emerged in Western countries in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It was introduced to China in the 1920s and 1930s through the New Culture Movement and the May Fourth Movement, and was combined with Chinese culture to form the Chinese art song. However,in my analysis and singing,I found that there are certain differences between Chinese and foreign works, but at the same time there are also certain similarities. In this paper,we analyse two representative art songs,《The Wandering Moon》 and 《The Order of the Folding Laurel—Spring Love》,with the aim of deepening our understanding and comparison of different types of art songs, and using our own practice to suggest suggestions for singing and stage practice. This paper is divided into four main sections, the first of which provides an overview of the development of the art song and looks at its commonalities and individuality in both Chinese and Western art songs. The second part analyses the lyrical content, melodic features, tune structure and melodic characteristics of the two works,《The Wandering Moon》 and 《The Order of the Folding Laurel—Spring Love》,starting from the musical texts themselves. The third part is a comparison of the breath, bite and mood of the two pieces for later learners. The fourth part is based on the author’s reflections on "second compositions" and explores how to perform the songs better on stage from the levels of consciousness, voice and behaviour.
