The report takes British playwright Edward Bond’s short play Olly’s Prison as a translation text with a focus on the principle of “performability” as a theoretical guide. It highlights the importance of not only staying loyal to the linguistic, cultural, and emotional elements of the source text but also adapting it to suit the needs of the stage. The report is divided into five parts. The first section introduces the translated materials, covering the original author, primary content, and distinctive features of the texts. The second section outlines the entire translation process. The third section delves into the principle of performability. The fourth section expounds on performability from three perspectives, namely, speakability, actability, and acceptability.Furthermore,it examines the translation strategies applicable in drama translation, considering aspects such as simplicity, rhythm, physical activity, mental activity, cultural adaptation, and dynamic imitation. The fifth section summarizes the translation. In conclusion, the report emphasizes that when applying the concept of performability as guidance, priority should be given to stage effects and audience requirements, ensuring that the translation and performance complement each other effectively.
