As a special literary form, drama has both the common features of literary language and the artistic characteristics of drama, which determines the complexity of drama translation. In the late1980 s,Susan Bassnett,a famous English translation theorist, first put forward the principle of “performability” in drama translation. For a long time, drama translation has been a controversial topic whether it focuses more on “performability” or “literariness”.With the drama translation gradually stepping onto the stage, its “literariness” can no longer meet the requirements of drama performance. An increasing number of researchers start to explore how to achieve “performability” of drama translation from different perspectives so as to ensure actors' performance and audience's understanding.Based on the principle of “performability”,Ying Ruocheng,a famous Chinese drama translator, puts forward requirements for drama translation on language, including colloquialism, brevity, actability and individuality. The translation material is selected from the play Eyes for Consuela by Sam shepherd,a famous American playwright in the 20 th century.Under the guidance of Ying Ruocheng's translation thoughts, the author primarily demonstrates how to realize the “performability” of the drama translation from the linguistic features. Some translation methods are adopted in the process of translation to achieve the performance effect of drama maximally, including antonymic translation, liberal translation, amplification, literal translation, and using four-character words. The translation report aims to illustrates the performability of drama can be achieved through colloquialism, brevity, actability and individuality. The finding contributes to improving the quality of translation and promoting the advancement of drama translation. The author expects that this report can be helpful to the translation and research of drama.
