| Nancy C.M.Hartsock,a prominent representative of contemporary American feminist Marxist theory,is well known for her theory of the feminist position. Her major works include Money,Sex and Power: Toward a Feminist Historical Materialism. This book takes Hartsock’s feminist Marxist thought as the object of study and provides a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of Hartsock’s feminist Marxism with a view to providing valuable theoretical resources for the continued development of feminist Marxism. In the 1980 s and 1990 s,the development of globalization brought increased attention to gender equality, but the mainstream theories of globalization neglected the gender element, resulting in the absence of women in the discourse of globalization. At the same time, the rise of new social movements in the West provided the necessary social basis for the integration of feminism and Marxism.Driven by the second wave of feminist movements,Hartsock’s understanding of feminist Marxism continued to mature.Hartsock drew on Marx’s theories of class analysis and labour alienation to develop her theory of the feminist position;used theory of sociological economics to develop her account of theories of feminism;and was influenced by theories of gender relations to develop a critique of abstract masculinity. In doing so,Hartsock created a distinctive body of feminist theory.Hartsock provides an in-depth analysis of women’s existence and the oppression to which they are subjected. In Hartsock’s view, capitalism is a double oppression, not only in terms of class, but also in terms of gender, which imposes a deep bondage on women, clamping down on their survival and worsening it.In addition, patriarchy also has a negative impact on women’s survival environment.Based on social reality,Hartsock provides an insightful analysis of the injustices suffered by women in social life from a female perspective. But Hartsock also points out that it is this relatively disadvantaged position of women in society that gives women a different perspective on the world, and that this cognitive advantage of women allows us to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the world.Women’s emancipation requires social change, the complete abolition of the sexual division of labour, the granting of social status and full voice to women on an equal footing with men,and the development of a specifically and concretely feminist historical materialism.Hartsock constructed a feminist standpoint theory under the guidance of historical materialism, and she has played an important role in enriching gender studies, promoting women’s emancipation and accelerating the process of integrating feminism with Marxism,Hartsock’s theory also suffers from limitations such as overly devaluing the cognitive value of men and a binary paradigm of thinking. However, there is no doubt that Hartsock’s feminist Marxist ideas have deepened and developed feminist Marxism and have certain theoretical and practical value. |
