Employment is the most basic livelihood, and China has repeatedly emphasized the importance of implementing the employment priority strategy. At the same time,China adheres to the basic national policy of gender equality and pays attention to safeguarding women’s basic rights. In recent years, significant improvements have been made in the situation of women in related fields such as health,education,economy,decision-making and management, social security, environment, and law. However, the current employment situation for women is not optimistic, and the female labor participation rate continues to decline, with a much larger decline than that of men.Although the family status of both spouses has become more equal in recent years,it should also be noted that female families have a heavier burden of care. With the acceleration of urbanization, the improvement of people’s living standards and the change of ideas,China’s family structure is showing a trend of miniaturization.Different living patterns lead to different family division of labor, which has an impact on the employment of married women. Therefore, within the theoretical framework of family division of labor, through literature review, current situation analysis, and empirical research, this study explores the impact of intergenerational living patterns on the employment of married women.Using the 2018 China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)data as empirical data, select appropriate indicators, construct a probit model to analyze the impact of intergenerational living patterns on married women’s employment, and conduct instrumental variable tests; The heterogeneity test and substitution variable test were conducted to further explore the group differences and robustness of the causal relationship between intergenerational living patterns and married women’s employment; Finally, verify the moderating effect of intergenerational interaction on the impact of intergenerational living patterns on married women’s employment. Conclusion: Living with parents significantly promotes married women’s employment; The impact of intergenerational living patterns on the employment of married women is moderated by intergenerational support. The promoting effect of living with parents and grandparents on the employment of married women can indeed be achieved through the mechanism of helping with household chores or taking care of children. However, providing assistance to parents and grandparents does not significantly affect the employment of married women, which is to some extent concealed by the age structure differences of married women; The impact of intergenerational living patterns on the employment of married women varies between urban and rural areas, regions, and ages.Intergenerational living patterns significantly affect the quality of employment for married women, increase their work hours, and increase their labor income. In order to alleviate the employment dilemma of women caused by the miniaturization of family structure and family work, and improve the supply of women’s labor, this dissertation puts forward countermeasures and suggestions from the four aspects of the government, society, families and individuals: the government actively plans the top-level system design, and promotes the improvement of social and cultural atmosphere and policy formulation;Enterprises should effectively assume corresponding social responsibilities, promote women’s career development, and actively give back to employees’ parents;Effective family planning for women’s career development, achieving shared family responsibilities and building a friendly family atmosphere;Women continue to focus on personal quality development, enhance their professional skills, and coordinate family relationships properly.
