Engels’ critique of capitalism during the Manchester period was not only an important theoretical activity of his youth, but also played an important role in the development of Engels’ thought. It was during this period that Engels penetrated deeply into the British working class and into the middle of real social life in England. He conducted a comprehensive investigation and study of the political, economic, class and social conditions in Britain, and also carried out an in-depth analysis and study of British political economy and other theories from a theoretical point of view.It presents a comprehensive and profound critique of capitalism while presenting the conditions of early British capitalism. This thesis is based on Engels’ works during the Manchester period, such as The Domestic Crisis,Letters from London,Progress of Social Reform on the Continent,Outline of the Critique of National Economy,The Condition of England, and The Condition of the Working Class in England, etc. It analyzes Engels’ critique of capitalism in England is combined with his examination and critique of the political, economic, cultural and ideological conditions of capitalism in England during this period.capitalism in Britain. At the same time,Engels’ critical activities in the Manchester period are compared with those in Bremen and Berlin and with those of Marx to reveal the main features of Engels’ capitalist criticism in the Manchester period. On this basis, the theoretical significance and contemporary value of Engels’ critique of the theory and reality of capitalism in this period are analyzed. The paper is divided into five parts in addition to the introduction.Chapter 1: This chapter mainly introduces the background of the era of the Young Engels’ Manchester period.Firstly,it introduces the development of world capitalism in the early nineteenth century.Next, the history of England and the development of capitalism in the same period are specifically described, and this provides a historical dimension for the critique of capitalism in the Manchester period of the young Engels.Chapter 2: This chapter focuses on the main activities of Engels in the Manchester period and his theoretical achievements.Firstly,it introduces Engels’ practical and theoretical activities in Manchester in this period.Secondly,it specifically covers the theoretical results Engels accomplished on the basis of his practical and theoretical activities, such as The Domestic Crisis,Letters from London,The State of England, etc. And it provides a textual basis for the specific study of Engels’ s critique of capitalism in this period.Chapter 3: This chapter focuses on Engels’ critique of capitalism in the Manchester period.Based on texts such as The Domestic Crisis,Letters from London,Progress of Social Reform on the Continent,Outline of the Critique of National Economy,The Condition of England, and The Condition of the Working Class in England,Engels’ critique of British capitalism is analyzed and discussed. It also focuses on the analysis and study of the political situation, economic situation, cultural situation and ideology of British capitalism.Chapter 4: This chapter focuses on the characteristics of the Young Engels’ critique of capitalism in the Manchester period.Firstly, the characteristics of Engels’ capitalist critique in this period are described in general terms.Secondly, the critical activities of Engels’ Manchester period are compared with those of Bremen and Berlin respectively. The links and differences between the critical activities of the three periods are revealed in terms of critical positions, critical objects and critical approaches.Again,Engels’ examination and criticism of capitalism in the Manchester period are compared with Marx’s thoughts and activities in the same period, revealing the connection and difference between them in terms of the critical path, the critical object and the critical mode.Ultimately,it is concluded that Engels completed his critique of capitalism in England, where capitalism is developed,by combining the examination of the real social situation in England and the study and critique of capitalist economy with socialist theory,i.e.,the process of combining practice and theory, and thus arriving at new views and theories.Chapter 5: On the basis of the above four chapters,This chapter focuses on the theoretical significance and contemporary value of the Young Engels’ critique of capitalism in the Manchester period.firstly,it analyzes the significance and role of Engels’ examination and criticism of capitalism during this period in completing the "two transformations" of Engels and forming a mature theoretical system in the later period.Secondly, the critique of capitalist theory and reality in this period by Engels is analyzed from the perspective of reality. It is conducive to a correct understanding of the history of the formation and development of Marxist theory,a firm belief in Marxist theory, and a correct understanding of the nature of contemporary capitalism. In conclusion, this paper intends to analyze and summarize Engels’ critique of capitalism and the characteristics of the critique through the study of Engels’ examination and critique of capitalism in the Manchester period. In this way,it is possible to correctly understand and grasp the content and development trajectory of Engels’ thought in this period, then understand the history of the emergence of the whole Marxist theory and correctly understand the new changes of contemporary capitalism and its essence. At the same time, the faith in Marxist theory will be strengthened. |
