Fingerprints,as the common evidence of individual identification, have a pivotal position in the field of forensic science. However, the quality of fingerprints collected in the field is often uneven, and it is difficult to make a definite conclusion based on 1st and 2nd fingerprint features alone,so it is crucial to fully explore the information contained in fingerprints. In this regard, researchers have focused on the more microscopic tertiary features of fingerprints, which include sweat pores, interpapillary lines, and edge patterns of friction ridges. For this reason, the following research is conducted in this paper based on the scientific basis and application form of the 3rd features of fingerprints:In the first part, the stability of fingerprint 3rd features in different time spans is presented.Starting from the morphological structure and position changes of the tertiary features of fingerprints in long-term and short-term intervals, the stability of sweat pores, interpapillary lines and wrinkles are summarized systematically, and it is found that the position features of sweat pores and interpapillary lines are more stable, which can be used as an auxiliary means for fingerprint identification and provide test conditions for fingerprint identification using 3rd features. In the second part, the reproducibility of fingerprint 3rd features by different developing methods.Through qualitative scoring and quantitative analysis, the 3rd fingerprint features of the scoring guidelines, the common fingerprint developing method on the 3rd fingerprint features of the reproduction effect was evaluated. At the same time,we selected quantitative indicators of sweat pores and interpapillary lines, the different developing methods to build entropy weight TOPSIS evaluation model for quantitative evaluation, the study found that 502 smoked method for the preservation of 3rd fingerprint features of the best fingerprint developing method,to verify the reproducibility of the 3rd fingerprint features, for litigation and test identification laid the material foundation. In the third part, based on the correlation between fingerprint micro-morphological features and age features,we explore the feasibility of using fingerprint tertiary features to portray the age.The correlation between the two is calculated by statistically summarizing the change trend of fingerprint micromorphological features with age, according to which a multiple linear regression model is fitted and compared with the classification effect of XGBoost algorithm and SVM classifier, and it is found that the fitted multiple linear regression model can obtain a relatively low error rate, while the accuracy of XGBoost and SVM can also reach more than50%.It indicates that the fingerprint micromorphological structure can be used as the basis for the age characterization of the population, which has certain reference value for the current criminal investigation. In the fourth part, fingerprint sweat pore features are combined with likelihood ratios, and the possibility of applying likelihood ratio methods to evaluate the evidential value of sweat pore features is systematically explored.By calculating the similarity of fingerprint sweat pore feature groups through an algorithm based on Euclidean distance similarity, and calculating the likelihood ratio from the scores of similarity, the likelihood ratio model is later evaluated, and the performance of the edge likelihood ratio method, the two-dimensional joint likelihood ratio method, the support vector machine classification method, and the t-SNE classification method are compared to provide a method for evaluating the evidence value of sweat pores.By investigating the stability and reproducibility of 3rd fingerprint features, this paper lays a scientific foundation for the application of 3rd fingerprint features in fingerprint identification. At the same time, the use of 3rd fingerprint features for crowd characterization and the use of likelihood ratios to assess the value of sweat pore evidence provide a feasibility study for the application of 3rd fingerprint features in fingerprint identification.
