Research On Qian Mu's World Vie

Tianxia plays an important role in the thought of Qian Mu.However,due to the limitations of the existing paradigms –nationalism and cultural nationalism,researchers are inclined to neglect it.The main purpose of this article is to study Qian Mu’s view on the theme of Tianxia systematically.Qian Mu’s view of Tianxia is part of his thought of state-building.Since the modern ear,China has been experiencing a serious cultural crisis under the impact of the West.The historical mission of modern China’s statebuilding includes national salvation and preserving Wangdao ideal.In order to solve the problem,Qian Mu turned to history and examined the practice of state-building of the ancient China.Guided by the thought of Tianxia,the aim of state-building in historical China was neither to build an empire,nor to fall into a narrow nation-state.Instead,it involved Tianxia’s scale and spirit,which could supply ideological resources and experience of order to explore good state and world order.However,Qian Mu did no apply the principles of Tianxia to the real world directly.As a matter of fact,he adjusted the conent of Tianxia according to the specific historical situation,and tried to build a new China and new Tianxia in a mutual view of tradition and modernity.At the world level,he did not seek to unify all peoples and civilisations,but rather advocated the establishment of separate states and traditions,and placed the vision of Human One into the future.On the Chinese level,he put forward that modern China should hold fast to Wangdao and take a middle path between the plan of enlightenment and emprie.
