A Bibliometric Analysis Of The Output,Research Focus And Knowledge Base Of Competitive Swimming Research In China And Worldwide In The Past 30 Years

The development of swimming needs scientific research’s assistance.In order to comprehensively and objectively grasp the development trend of competitive swimming research at home and abroad,improve the level of Chinese swimming research,and broaden the horizons of discipline development,the researches on competitive swimming on core journals in the past 30 years,from 1990 to 2020,are processed through bibliometric analysis and mathematical statistics with CiteSpace software.Literature bibliographic information is obtained through CNKI and Web of Science database,domestic and foreign competitive swimming researches are compared and analyzed from the four aspects including the time and space characteristics of the article production,cooperation situation,research focus and knowledge base.The intent is to learn from each other’s strengths,and help Chinese competitive swimming by putting forward constructive opinions on research and development.The results of the study are refined as follows:1.In the past 30 years,there is a significant difference in the trend of changes in the amount of articles published in Chinese and English core journals on competitive swimming.The volume of domestic postings fluctuates slightly and is generally stable.The volume of postings abroad has experienced a low-to-high increase and has remained stable in the past 10 years.The high-yield research areas in China are located in Beijing,the southeastern coastal areas represented by Shanghai,Zhejiang,and Guangdong,and the central region represented by Sichuan,Shaanxi,and Hubei.The main publishing organizations are major sports colleges and universities,and sports sciences at all levels.Research institutes and comprehensive universities.Foreign research mainly comes from developed countries in North America,Europe and Oceania,and high-yield institutions are mainly comprehensive universities.Both at home and abroad,there is a trend of increasing level of inter-agency cooperation.2.The domestic research focus of competitive swimming can be divided into 8 dimensions:technical and tactical analysis,swimming event development and talent training,fatigue recovery and injury rehabilitation,characteristics of elite swimmers,function monitoring in training,development and selection of children,pattern of international swimming and China’s position.3.The foreign research focus of competitive swimming can be divided into 7 dimensions:kinematics research,kinetics research,overall training process,sports physiology,biochemistry and metabolic energy supply,sports injury and prevention,nutrition and replenishment,and psychology.4.The knowledge base of domestic competitive swimming research gradually formed around 2005,mostly in Chinese literature and books,among which Chinese books and English translations on swimming theory,function assessment,and training theory were cited the most.5.The knowledge base of foreign competitive swimming research was formed earlier and remained relatively stable for 30 years.Old documents have longlasting popularity,while newer documents are becoming classics.The classics are mostly experimental research papers related to swimming technique,energy consumption and training.6.China has not yet formed an influence in the academic community of world competitive swimming research,and there are still large vacancies in swimming dynamics research,training warm-up and recovery,energy metabolism,athlete psychology,and nutritional supply.In view of this,Chinese scholars should strengthen the study of foreign competitive swimming research,strengthen the theoretical foundation,absorb cuttingedge theories,and expand innovative thinking.Actively learn subject knowledge in other fields of sports science and rich research perspectives.It is necessary to promote the resource exchange and talent sharing between sports colleges and sports scientific research institutions and comprehensive colleges,inject superior resources in multidisciplinary fields into swimming sports science research,and break through the knowledge barriers between sports academics and physiology,medicine,and computer science.To get rid of the limitations of research development conditions,and to enhance the level and value of research,Chinese scholars should actively submit their research results to international core journals,encourage international academic cooperation,and enhance the worldwide inpact of Chinese swimming research.
