Triple representation has always been one of the very important ways of thinking in middle school chemistry learning, which has high research value in the field of chemistry education, while the core concept of chemistry is the overall understanding of the thought, viewpoint and method of chemistry. Many experts and scholars on the core concept of the triple characterization and chemistry is defined, there are more researchers to improve students’ ability in triple characterization or based on the chemical construction of core concepts in such aspects as teaching design, train strategy has carried on the deeper research, but for chemical core concepts and triple characterization of the relationship between the ability of study is less, further research is needed. Therefore, based on the knowledge content of elemental compounds, this study is committed to measuring the level of high school students’ triple representation and chemical change concept, and to explore the influence of high school students’ chemical change concept on their triple representation ability.Firstly, the literature related to triple representation and chemical core concept was searched and sorted out to clarify the connotation of relevant concepts and understand the research direction of scholars on triple representation and chemical core concept.Secondly, the level of threefold representation and chemical change concept of senior high school students is delineated, and the test of threefold representation and chemical change concept of senior high school students is compiled.Then,8 excellent students in grade three of a provincial key standardized high school in Shandong province were investigated by means of the method of thinking aloud.Thirdly, the recordings were transcribed into oral reports, and the oral reports were analyzed according to the evaluation criteria for each level of triple representation and chemical change concept,so as to understand the level of triple representation and chemical change concept of senior high school students, and explore the influence of their chemical change concept on the ability of triple representation. Finally, the conclusions are summarized and some teaching suggestions are put forward. The results show that :(1)The level of triple representation of high school students is affected by the problem situation. The more simple the representational dimension of the information provided in the problem situation, the lower the level of triple representation of high school students.(2)The level of high school students’ concept of chemical change will be affected by the problem situation. The more unfamiliar the problem situation or the more ambiguous the problem direction, the lower the level of chemical change concept of high school students.(3)The chemical core concept of senior high school students will affect their triple representation ability, and the level of chemical change concept is significantly correlated with the level of triple representation. The innovation is mainly reflected in the following aspects: First, the level of the triple representation and the concept of chemical change of senior high school students is defined, and the test paper of the triple representation and the concept of chemical change of senior high school students is compiled, which provides a new tool for the future practice research.Secondly, the preliminary study shows that the concept of chemical change can affect the triple representation ability of high school students, which provides some empirical data for further research on the factors affecting the triple representation ability.
