In recent years,learning progressions has been one of the research hotspots in science education.The United States has adopted learning progressions as the framework for the Next Generation Science Standards.Our country has also constructed a hierarchical model of cognitive development in line with the reality of Chinese students.Based on these research results,this paper studies the learning progressions of "electricity and magnetism" in compulsory education,and construct the compulsory education stage "electricity and magnetism" theme learning advanced frame.Finally,the advanced framework is tested empirically.Understand and analyze the origin,elements,development mode,presentation mode and verification mode of learning progressions through domestic and foreign literature.The Likert scale was used to investigate important concepts under the theme of "electricity and magnetism" in junior middle school physics,and build some concept maps.Referring to textbooks,curriculum standards,the Next Generation Science Standards,and students’myths about "electricity and magnetism",the topic of "electricity and magnetism" in compulsory education is divided into three advanced dimensions of "circuit","magnetic field" and "electromagnetic conversion".The framework of learning progressions under the theme of "electricity and magnetism" in compulsory education is preliminarily constructed,and students’ cognitive complexity is taken as the progression variable.After the framework of learning progressions is constructed,the empirical test of the framework is carried out.First,develop empirical test measurement tools and formulate the corresponding evaluation criteria.Second,the primary school students and junior middle school students in Suzhou were tested and empirical data were obtained.Third,the empirical data were imported into WINSTEPS software for statistical and analysis.Finally,according to the data analysis results,the learning progressions path is verified and adjusted to obtain a more credible learning progressions of "electricity and magnetism" in compulsory education.At the same time,the distribution of students’ cognitive level on the subject of"electricity and magnetism" in compulsory education was obtained.It is found that most students(43.1%)can reach the system level,while only a few students(17.25%)can reach the integration level.Students at the experience level,mapping level and relation level account for 5.17%,12.93%and 21.55%respectively.Based on learning progressions,it puts forward three teaching suggestions for teachers before,during and after teaching.Before teaching,teachers should make clear students’ preconcept and set up advanced teaching objectives.In teaching,teachers should design progressive teaching activities to help students better establish physical concepts.After teaching,teachers can test students through hierarchical examination papers to understand students’ cognition of the teaching content,which is convenient for the development of follow-up courses.
