| English writing reflects students’ language expression and thinking organization ability,and is the key content of English teaching in senior high school.The General High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)clearly stipulates the level of English writing that high school students should achieve in the stage of compulsory education.Among the four basic skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing,writing can reflect the learners’ comprehensive ability to use language.However,to a large extent,the current situation of English writing teaching is deficient,and students’ writing competence does not completely meet the requirements of high school English curriculum standards.Reading can promote writing.The combination of reading and writing can organically combine language imitation with content innovation,so as to improve language use ability.Based on this,Wang(2012)proposed continuation writing.As a potential influencing factor,the genre change of reading materials will not only bring stylistic changes,but also changes in antecedent context and language imitation model.Genre analysis makes students aware of different genres in the learning process,which will help students to construct their own writing content and thus contribute to their writing performance.Therefore,it is necessary to use different genres of reading materials into continuation writing to improve students’ writing ability.Based on genre analysis theory,input and output hypothesis,and interactive alignment theory,this study explores the impact of genre-based continuation writing on students writing competence.The author conducted a 14-week teaching research in the No.41 Middle School in Urumqi.The research objects were students of class(1)and class(5),two parallel classes.The author uses tests,questionnaires and interview to explore the following three question:(1)What is the current situation of students’ writing?(2)What impact does genre based continuation writing have on students’ English overall writing score,and three aspects of writing score(content,structure,language)?(3)What impact does genre-based continuation writing have on students’ attitude in English writing? After analyzing the writing genre of college entrance examination,the author selects narration,argumentation and practical writing as the main genres.The results show:(1)The current situation of students’ writing is not very ideal.Students’ writing attitude(writing cognition,writing emotion,writing behavior tendency)are all in a negative state.(2)Genre based continuation writing can improve students’ English writing ability,especially in writing content and structure.The content of writing is more abundant and substantial,and the structure of writing is more reasonable and logical.Besides,although it also has a positive impact on the writing language,the effect is not obvious.(3)Genre based continuation writing has also changed students’ attitude(writing cognition,writing emotion,writing behaviour tendency),and improved students’ writing interest.This study verifies the learning effect of genre based continuation writing,and also helps to improve students’ English writing ability. |
