Case Work Intervention Study On Stress Relief For Family Caregivers Of Disabled Elderly People

China has entered an aging society,the number of elderly population is increasing.With the increasing degree of aging,the risk of disability in the elderly also increases.In 2019,the number of disabled elderly people in China has exceeded 40 million.The overall health status of the elderly is not optimistic,which poses challenges to China’s pension security system and medical and health care system for the elderly,and the pressure of caring for the disabled elderly is also increasing.In China,most disabled elderly people rely on family members to take care of them.However,family caregivers face multiple pressures due to long family care time,heavy tasks and complicated work,which require attention and support from all walks of life.After literature review and preliminary investigation,this paper selected 12 family caregivers of the disabled elderly as the interviewees in the local special population return visit project,and analyzed their stress sources and coping styles by combining Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory,ecosystem theory and social support theory.Comprehensive interview results show that family caregivers of disabled elderly people generally have great care pressure.The sources of pressure can be summarized as personal level,family level and social level.The personal level includes physiological and psychological pressure,the family level includes economic pressure and family conflict,and the social level is mainly social interaction and social value limitation.Stress coping strategies can be summarized as cognitive orientation coping and behavioral orientation coping.The coping styles of cognitive orientation include shelving negative emotions and venting negative emotions,while the coping styles of behavioral orientation include caregivers’ self-coping strategies and seeking external social support.After identifying the main sources of stress and coping strategies of family caregivers of the disabled elderly through interviews,the case work method,combined with short-term treatment and social support theory,was used to intervene in the social work practice of the service objects of the case.Through the intervention of 8 cases,the negative emotions of the service objects are effectively channeled and the social interpersonal network of the service objects is reconstructed,and the care pressure of the service objects is alleviated through multiple channels.After the end of the case work,the results of the case work were evaluated through the scale before and after,the evaluation of service objects and the self-evaluation of social workers in order to verify the actual effect of social work in alleviating the pressure of the family caregivers of the disabled elderly.Through the case work intervention in the pressure problems of family caregivers of the disabled elderly,it can be found that the intervention of case work is feasible and can help family caregivers relieve pressure through reasonable channels and improve their living conditions.Long-term care for the disabled elderly is a prominent issue in China in recent years,but no research can be accomplished overnight.Research on the problems of the disabled elderly and their family caregivers needs to be continuously developed and improved,and practical experience should be summarized to promote social work methods into the field of pressure relief for the disabled elderly family caregivers.
