| Although academic circles have paid attention to the important role of social media in public health crises, there is still a lack of research on social media exposure, personal negative emotions, risk perception and potential mechanisms for subsequent prevention of behavior.Emotion plays an important role in influencing risk perception and subsequent behavior change at the individual level.According to the protective motivation theory model, moderate fear can promote individuals to adopt adaptive coping behaviors, while when the fear level is too low or too high, individuals may not pay attention to or excessively avoid such risky behaviors.Outbreak in is always full of uncertainty, therefore, age, this study explore the COVID-19 from the dimension of emotional content of the social media contact, personal negative emotions, the influence of risk perception and subsequent behavior path, trying to provide the localization of the empirical data for related theory model, combined with the local situation adjust the theoretical model.Research through a structural equation model of 320 social media users, the results showed that content of COVID-19 of social media will contact to the user’s "fear" and "anxiety" emotions produce positive effect, but the two types of emotion will not only for individual prevention behavior produce direct stimulation, and can produce indirectly through risk perception on personal preventive behavior.Overall, social media exposure to COVID-19 information promotes individuals’ preventive behavior, while individuals’ negative emotional responses and perceived risk play an important mediating role in this process. The results provide new ideas for government agencies and news media to use social media to awaken “moderate negative emotions” in the public and try to use these emotions to guide individuals to take preventive actions in the post-pandemic era. |
