| Chemistry curriculum standards of high school(2017 edition, revised in 2020)advocate assessment based on key competence in chemistry. The"Principle of Chemical Reaction" module has important value to develop"Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence. The study focuses on the "Principle of Chemical Reaction" module to assess the key competence performance and its changing trend of high school students, which is of great significance for enriching the assessment of key competence in chemistry.Based on the key competence level, academic quality level and related literature analysis of "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts”in the curriculum standards, the study established the "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence performance level and key level variables of the "Principle of Chemical Reaction" module.Based on the content requirements, academic requirements and textbook content of the"Principle of Chemical Reaction" module, the study constructed "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence performance expectations of"Principle of Chemical Reaction" module at different stages.Based on the performance expectations, the study developed and optimized the assessment tool by Winsteps 3.72.0 software. The assessment tools includes five parts:"Chemical Reaction Principle"(the first stage),"Thermal Effect of Chemical Reaction"(second stage),"Chemical Reaction Rate and Chemical Equilibrium"(third stage),"Ionic reaction and equilibrium in aqueous solution"(fourth stage),and "Chemical Reaction and Electric Energy"(fifth stage). The study assessed 470 second-year high school students for five times, and got 2149 samples. Then the study analyzed high school students’key competence performance of "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts"key competence in the "Principle of Chemical Reaction" module. The results of the large sample assessment showed that:(1)The high school students’ performance of "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts"key competence in the "Chemical Reaction Principle" module was at the level 2.The level distribution was mainly at level 2 and level 1,accounting for 44.02%and 30.90%respectively,followed by level 3,accounting for 18.19%,and rarely at level 4,accounting for 2.70%.(2)The high school students’performance of "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence in the "Principle of Chemical Reaction" module at different stages:the performance of students was at level 1 in the first, second stage, and the performance of students was at level 2 in the third, fourth and fifth stages.(3)In the learning process of the "Principles of Chemical Reaction"module from the first stage to the fifth stage, the performance of the key competence of "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" has developed.Students’performance from Stages Ⅱ to Ⅲ and Stages Ⅲ to Ⅳ was significant while students" performance from Stages Ⅰ to Ⅱ and Stages Ⅳ to Ⅴwas not significant. The study provides suggestions to develop students’ "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence in "Principle of Chemical Reaction" module:(1)understanding the core concept of teaching value deeply based on "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence,(2)Developing the timeliness assessment of "Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence based on key teaching nodes,(3)increasing students’ opportunities to a higher level based on performance level of"Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence,(4)breaking through the teaching difficulties based on student performance evidence of"Changing Ideas and Balancing Thoughts" key competence. |
