With the development of new media, rural youth subculture presents new characteristics. The current research on subculture mainly focuses on urban adolescents, neglecting the cultural practice of rural adolescents, and lacks relevant research that links the practice of adolescent school education with the practice of online subculture. Therefore, there are deficiencies in explaining the conflict between school education and online subculture,as well as social reproduction and other aspects.Based on Bourdieu’s field theory, this paper analyzes the relationship between the network subculture of rural youth and school suzhi(roughly glossed as"quality”)discourse in the current new media era,and analyzes the impact of their mutual construction on the macro process of social reproduction.Using qualitative research methods, this paper conducts a field research of a rural school in a province in eastern China. The research has found that the school uses suzhi discourse closely combines the individual fate of young people with the national and ethnic destiny, thereby constructing the legitimacy and rationality of improving students’ quality through education in schools. However, the insufficient investment of rural families in children’s education and the weakness of basic education in educational continuity have led to a sense of powerlessness in rural schools in improving the suzhi of rural students. The school field follows the structural authority and teacher knowledge authority under social institutional norms.Compared to the authoritative position of teachers, students are in a disadvantaged position, and physical space, extracurricular activities, and teaching activities have become means for schools to promote and instill suzhi discourse in students.Wrapped in the discourse of suzhi, students’ academic achievements are seen as the result of the"Heavenly Way Rewards Diligence",concealing the role played by family cultural capital and class culture in it.Ultimately, students attribute their academic failure to their own lack of abilities and unconsciously adapt to the hierarchical system of suzhi discourse. In the field of network subculture, student participants construct identity logic.Rural students usually rationalize their subculture participation behavior for reasons such as entertainment and positive energy, and thus express their partial recognition of school suzhi discourse. But at the same time, rural students have constructed a logical system that is partially different from the school’s suzhi discourse. The suzhi discourse they identify with has certain prerequisites, that is,consensus between both parties under equal conditions, rather than unilateral power oppression.Students express their dissatisfaction with the school system and teacher management through various means online and offline, boldly sharing the topic of "disciplinary violations"online, and gaining resonance among peers. However, the accumulation of students’identity capital in the network field cannot enter the school. The school constructs the legitimacy of the mainstream suzhi discourse in the field through multiple ways, suppresses the influence of subculture, breaks the identity logic of network culture, and establishes the top-down practice logic guided by the mainstream suzhi discourse. The reasons for the above phenomenon come from the following three aspects:First, the cultural conflict in the school field cannot be separated from the influence of the mainstream culture of the macro cultural environment on the compilation and rectification of subculture. In the long-term game between mainstream culture and subculture, subculture is faced with official rectification and commercial adaptation. In order to seek its own development,it has to resort to implicit resistance and compromise to seek its own survival and development. Therefore, student subculture groups such as loving pop stars and anime Animation, etc.usually use "positive energy" to establish their own rationality.Secondly, the expansion of school enrollment has provided more opportunities for rural students to continue studying and obtain higher education. The expansion of limited educational opportunities has alleviated the tension between students and parents. The happy mood of "having the opportunity to attend higher school" has made rural students willing to continue to recognize the value of school education and weakened their resistance and self abandonment mentality abandoned by school education.Thirdly, the current new media short videos integrate social classes into one platform.Under the influence of big data algorithm push, rural students constantly come into contact with the non bottom class who are far away from their lives. The beautiful imagination created by the Internet often makes them unable to see the difficulties and challenges faced by their class, which cannot form a sense of resistance based on their parents’ class.
