In March 2022,the Ministry of Education issued the Information Technology Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education, which pointed out that the compulsory education information technology curriculum, together with the high school information technology curriculum and extracurricular information technology education, constitutes a complete information technology education system that enhances students’ digital literacy and skills and cultivates their innovation capabilities in the information age.At the same time, the rapid development of information technology has accelerated the integration of real and virtual information ecology.More and more scholars have begun to focus on and explore the application of virtual reality technology in experimental teaching. However, some chemical experiments have high costs, high risks, and irreversibility in case of accidents, which limit the normal conduct of various experimental projects in teaching.Virtual reality technology,as a new blue ocean for high-quality development, solves the shortcomings of traditional experiments and promotes the educational process of chemical experiments. This study is based on the principles of the new curriculum standards.Using literature analysis, case study, and questionnaire survey as research methods, and based on situation cognition theory and virtual experience theory, this study selected an important experiment from the Luco edition of high school chemistry compulsory course, which is expensive and toxic. The virtual simulation experiment of "metal sodium burning in chlorine gas" was designed and developed using Unreal Engine(UE for short),and a teaching mode based on this simulation experiment was constructed. Finally,it was applied to actual teaching, and the feedback from the teaching survey questionnaire was analyzed. The design ideas of this paper are as follows:Firstly, the research background and significance of the paper are introduced.Based on the analysis of the current research status of virtual experiments at home and abroad, the research content of this paper is to design and develop a high school chemistry simulation experiment based on Unreal Engine. Then the research methods and theoretical basis applied in this paper are introduced, and the structure and technical route of the paper are clarified. The innovation and shortcomings of this study are analyzed.Secondly, the concept of simulation experiments and the development status of related research in China are reviewed. The positive impact of simulation experiments on education is discussed from three aspects, and the problems faced by simulation experiments in the field of education are analyzed. The simulation experiment construction mode is explained from different perspectives, and the features of the mode are analyzed and compared. The implementation path of this simulation experiment is clarified, including technical support and virtual experience equipment used, and a comparative analysis of the implementation path of simulation experiments is conducted.Thirdly, the teaching design of the simulation experiment is planned and conceived. After clarifying the textbook, learning situation, teaching objectives, and teaching difficulties, based on the principles of project-based learning and situation cognition theory,a teaching mode for this virtual experiment is designed based on rocket, which includes "two subjects","seven links",and "three thrusts".It is applied to the educational teaching process.Fourthly, the design and implementation of the simulation experiment are detailed in a graphic and textual form.Firstly, the overall functions of the simulation experiment system are summarized, and then the technical route is clarified, including creating scenes, importing models, interactive function design, and adjusting effects. The key technologies are emphasized, and the interaction design is described from the perspectives of scene interaction and experimental operation. Finally, the completed effect is highlighted.Fifthly,in order to test the teaching effect of the simulation experiment,a questionnaire survey was conducted using the Likert five-point scale, and the reliability and validity of the questionnaire data were tested using SPSS software, laying the foundation for further optimizing this simulation experiment. Finally, the main work of this paper is summarized, the main conclusions of this paper are expounded, and the outlook is made.It is hoped that through further work, the simulation experiment can be improved and perfected, and students’digital literacy and skills can be enhanced in the process of actively participating in interactive learning activities supported by information technology. This paper provides reference and ideas for the development of virtual simulation experiments in the education field and enriches virtual reality teaching resources. In summary, this paper uses the new curriculum standards as the basis for teaching design, uses Unreal Engine as the creative tool, designs and implements the simulation experiment of "metal sodium burning in chlorine gas",which helps students to enhance their digital literacy and skills in the process of actively participating in interactive learning activities supported by information technology. It provides reference and ideas for the development of virtual simulation experiments in the education field and enriches virtual reality teaching resources.
