Compared with the overseas insurance development process for hundreds of years, the insurance industry started late, although there are certain gaps, but with the rapid development of domestic economy in the past 20 years, the insurance industry has gradually grown up and become the world’s most prominent new life insurance country. In modern economic development, insurance has become an important means of risk management,it’s also an important part of modern financial and social security systems. With the transformation of China’s population structure, the population has shown the characteristics of aging, fewer birthrates, and miniaturization of family size, the family security function has gradually weakened, and the advantages of commercial insurance have become more and more prominent.Purchasing commercial personal insurance is an effective means to reduce the impact of unknown factors on individuals and families, more and more people pay attention to commercial personal insurance.Based on the data of China Household Finance Survey(CHFS)in 2019,Probit and Tobit models were used to investigate the impact of household demographic structure on family participation in commercial personal insurance.Firstly, based on the theories related to commercial personal insurance demand and the current development trend, the discussion is carried out. Then, starting from the current social population trend, the proportion of the elderly population in the family(over 65 years old),the proportion of the children population in the family(under 14 years old)and the family size are selected as the core indicators of family population structure to study their impact on the demand for commercial personal insurance. At the same time, considering the differences among different families, the sample families were grouped according to urban-rural,regional and income differences to study their heterogeneity. The results of this study show that the proportion of elderly population has a significant negative impact on the family’s participation in commercial personal insurance, which means that the aging population inhibits the demand for commercial personal insurance from families. The proportion of children and family size have a significant positive impact on the participation of families in commercial personal insurance, indicating that the increase of family child population and family size expansion will promote family participation in commercial personal insurance. At the same time,it is found that urban households are more significantly affected by population structure than rural households. The influence of family population structure was more significant in eastern China than in central and western China. The proportion of middle-aged and elderly population in high income families has the most obvious negative effect on family participation in commercial personal insurance, and the family size in middle income families has the most obvious promoting effect on personal insurance.Based on the results,This thesis puts forward the countermeasures and suggestions to promote the development of commercial personal insurance from four aspects, such as strengthening product diversity and improving personalized demands;Strengthening insurance recognition and enhancing residents’ risk awareness;Paying attention to coordinated regional development and improving insurance purchasing capacity;Promoting the multi-level integration of social security and commercial personal insurance.
