Wang Guowei’s Idea Of "Intensifying Beauty And Fostering Morality" And Its Educational Implications

Wang Guowei is the early founder of Chinese modern aesthetics academic research.On the basis of integrating Chinese and Western studies,he used Western philosophy and aesthetic concepts to uniquely interpret Chinese traditional philosophy and aesthetic thoughts,which not only showed the rationality and orthodoxy of Chinese aesthetics to the world,but also promoted the modern transformation of Chinese aesthetics.It promoted the establishment of modern Chinese aesthetics and the reconstruction of modern moral education.Based on the textual study of Wang Guowei’s large number of first-hand academic works,this paper mainly expounds Wang Guowei’s thought of "establishing beauty and cultivating morality",including its ideological origin,ideological connotation,characteristic influence and educational implications.From the perspective of ideological origins,Wang Guowei’s childhood family environment and the historical and social reality at that time accumulated rich soil for the germination of his academic thoughts,and Wang Guowei’s own national studies have a solid foundation.Knowledge of philosophy and aesthetic theory.The ideological connotation of establishing beauty and cultivating morality refers to guiding the subject to actively enter the realm of beauty to appreciate beauty or create beauty based on the background of aesthetic independence and the establishment of the discipline of aesthetic education,so that the subject’s emotions are stimulated,temperament is cultivated,soul is nourished,and self-cultivation is improved.such an educational process.It mainly includes two aspects,one is the theoretical elaboration of what kind of beauty Wang Guowei establishes and what kind of virtue it cultivates.Wang Guowei’s basic views on aesthetics include "the useless use of beauty","the development of academia lies in its independence",and "aesthetic education can be regarded as the auxiliary of moral education".Aesthetic education is an important foundation and way of moral education,and it can be achieved through the use of aesthetic education to cultivate morality.Wang Guowei proposed that the implementation of aesthetic education includes the use of music,literature,nature,etc.to guide the subject into the aesthetic situation,so that the subject temporarily transcends material desires,purifies the soul and gradually enters the lofty moral realm.Wang Guowei’s thought of "establishing beauty and cultivating morality" showed the characteristics of human nature,nationality,innovation and compatibility,and had an important influence on the formation and development of Cai Yuanpei and Zhu Guangqian’s thoughts on aesthetics and aesthetic education.However,because specific thoughts are the products of a specific era,Wang Guowei’s thoughts also show the tendency of idealism,the limitation of the environment of the times,and the exaggeration of the function of aesthetic education.In today’s era,we can still learn from Wang Guowei’s idea of "establishing beauty and cultivating morality" to strengthen the school’s aesthetic education,improve the school’s moral education effectiveness,and cultivate people with all-round development.Specifically,it can be carried out from four aspects: strengthening school art education,excavating aesthetic elements in disciplines,paying attention to the edification of campus environment,and carrying out natural practice education activities.
